Our firm played a critical role in the creation over a decade ago of North Hudson Regional Fire & rescue, which consolidated five fire departments in Guttenberg, Weehawken, Union City, West New York and North Bergen – which involved merging over 350 uniformed personnel and 20 fire houses. Our role in these matters is multi-faceted, involving analysis of critical issues involving labor contracts, organizational and financial issues, contractual obligations, property disposition, and securing the requisite approvals from State agencies such as the Local Finance Board.
Our firm has also been involved in matters where municipalities decide to dissolve local utility authorities whose functions can be performed either by the municipality, a regional entity, or a private purveyor. Our involvement includes working with local government officials, engineers, auditors and government entities in preparing the necessary ordinances and submissions to the Local Finance Board in Trenton to proceed with dissolution, as well as in the implementation of the process for the successor entity to seamlessly assume responsibility for the day to day operations of the dissolved entity.
