New Jersey Environmental Attorney Daniel McKillop to Discuss the EPA Adding 19 Miles of the Hackensack River to the Superfund National Priorities List in a CIANJ Virtual Event
On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, Scarinci Hollenbeck Partner Dan McKillop will present “Hackensack River Designated A Superfund Site – What It Means to Business” in a virtual event hosted by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ).
The event will cover concerns regarding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s recent announcement that it is adding the southern 19 miles of the Hackensack River in Bergen and Hudson counties to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). The “Superfund” designation is reserved for the most heavily polluted sites across the country and notably, the EPA will now conduct additional testing to determine the extent of the contamination and will move forward to identify “potentially responsible parties” (PRPs) who contributed to the contamination of the river.
Businesses who may be encompassed within the PRP categories can benefit from this event by gaining a better understanding of the Superfund process, assessing their potential liability, and learning how to communicate with the EPA regarding these matters.
Founded in 1927 as the Bergen County Chamber of Commerce, CIANJ has always been an advocate for business and free enterprise in New Jersey. The group was a leading advocate for the building of the George Washington Bridge, opened in 1931 providing a gateway to New York and enhancing the transportation network and success of businesses throughout the region. Over the years, the group remained a strong voice for the expansion and improvement of the business climate in the area.
Dan McKillop has served as Chair of the Firm’s Cannabis Law practice group since 2016 and has twenty years of experience in all aspects of environmental law and litigation. Dan leads a team of more than a dozen attorneys from our various practice areas who assist entities seeking to obtain medical and adult-use cannabis licenses, and he has a thorough knowledge of current Federal and state medical and adult-use cannabis law and proposed legislation and regulations. Dan regularly authors articles and presents at business events regarding the emerging cannabis industry, and he is a member of the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association Cannabis Law Committee, as well as an Editor of the Cannabis Law Journal. In 2018 Dan was selected by the National Law Journal as a 2018 Cannabis Law Trailblazer.
