NJ Special Education Attorney Featured in Lehigh University Symposium

During the week of June 23 through June 28, 2019, Hope R. Blackburn will be featured in Lehigh University’s Special Education Law Symposium. The University’s intensive one-week symposium provides a practical analysis of legislation, regulations, and court decisions relating to the education of students with disabilities. The symposium is designed for special education coordinators and teachers, principals, psychologists, parent advocates, charter school personnel, attorneys (on both sides), hearing officers, state education agency personnel, and other individuals interested in a thorough exploration of the special education legal landscape.

Ms. Blackburn will be featured among 19 attorneys from 11 states as part of a series of the Symposium’s educational workshop sessions covering a variety of special education law matters including IDEA and Section 504: child find/eligibility, SEA liability, FAPE, LRE, student discipline, and much more. She will be reacting to the topics “Least Restrictive Environment: Inclusion in a High Stakes World” and “IDEA Rights of Students in Foster Care, the Juvenile Justice System, or Experiencing Homelessness” on Wednesday, June 26, 2019.

The week-long Symposium offers the options of graduate credit and continuing education credit, including CLE units for attorneys.  For more information on the Symposium and to register, please head over to:

About Hope R. Blackburn

Hope R. Blackburn has decades of experience providing legal representation to dozens of public school boards, various educational institutions and school administrators on a myriad of Education Law matters with an emphasis on the delivery of services to students. She has served as General Counsel to both the Jersey City and Newark public school systems and was the former Director of the Division of Purchase and Property for the State of New Jersey.

Ms. Blackburn is frequently called upon to give presentations on various issues facing public school systems, faculty and the student body. Most recently, Ms. Blackburn gave a presentation on School Security – Arming School Staff during the Annual Council of School Attorneys of the National School Boards Association Conference (COSA). On June 12, she will be presenting as part of the NJSBA’s Spring Law Forum on Transgender Students and on June 13, she will be presenting at the Governmental Purchasing Association of New Jersey (GPANJ) on Lease Purchase Financing.
