Bienstock & Michael gained national prominence for their unprecedented trademark opposition victory against Fender Musical Instruments. In addition, Bienstock & Michael has represented many gold and platinum-selling recording artists, as well as internationally-known actors, writers, producers and directors. Ronald S. Bienstock will co-chair Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Intellectual Property, and Entertainment, Sports, & Media Law Groups. The combining of these two firms’ existing practice groups and capabilities expands Scarinci Hollenbeck’s intellectual property, litigation, and entertainment groups, while simultaneously offering Bienstock & Michael’s clients a broader range of legal services.

For more than thirty years, Bienstock & Michael, LLC has handled an array of intellectual property and entertainment business-related concerns for their clients, including transactional and litigation matters. They have worked with a plethora of creative individuals, artists, and companies within the entertainment industry and beyond, representing clients in federal and state courts across the country, as well as before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. They have handled many highly contentious and complex trademark, copyright and patent infringement actions, trade secret disputes, contract breaches and general business litigation matters. Their clients include artists, songwriters, composers, bands, producers, engineers, managers, on-screen talent, models, fiction and non-fiction writers, studios, media production companies, music recording and publishing companies, television production companies, new media and internet companies, and non-profit organizations.

Ronald S. Bienstock, Partner, is one of the most prominent and influential lawyers in legal and music circles, widely regarded as the “go-to” attorney for some of the most hard-fought intellectual property cases. He has worked with businesses, musicians, and music manufacturers, including Simple Plan, Living Colour, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Dream Theater, Peavey, ESP and Dean Guitars. A performing and recording musician himself, Ron has appeared with various major recording artists.
Jill A. Michael, Partner, has a wide-ranging background in drafting, reviewing and negotiating all types of entertainment-related documents, including recording, distribution, production, music publishing, producer, management, agency, merchandising, and live touring/performance agreements, and master use, synchronization, and mechanical licenses. She will be based at Scarinci Hollenbeck’s New York office.
Brent “Giles” Davis, Counsel, represents clients on intellectual property and general business litigation matters. His work includes copyright and trademark issues, as well as production, development, personnel and distribution agreements.
Adrian Lee, Associate, handles corporate transactions involving drafting, structuring, and negotiating contracts and licenses for a variety of clients.
Shane I. Birnbaum, Associate, advises corporate clients on all aspects of business and intellectual property law, including transactional and litigation matters, both domestically and abroad.
